Manchester’s Literary Treasure

Elizabeth Gaskell’s House in Manchester was the home of Elizabeth Gaskell, one of the nineteenth century’s most important women writers.

An exciting project is now well under way to convert the House into a major visitor attraction and a centre for the local community, focussing on the life and works of Elizabeth Gaskell and her family.


Elizabeth Gaskell’s House will reopen in October 2014.

As Research Assistant to Prof. Helen Rees Leahy, who is acting as Curatorial and Academic advisor for the project, I will be organising an event around the reopening of the House, and the complex and intellectual “conversations” and community engagement which can emerge from and within this interesting space …..
